COLLECTION GRANDS CRUS

ECHEZEAUX
Grand Cru

Echezeaux shows a pure, lively, and deep ruby robe, limpid, often shifting toward garnet or purplish-violet hues.

In its youth, it opens readily with aromas of smoke, toast, red fruits, fresh cherry, rose, violet, or spice.

With its aromatic complexity, this is a wine that’s both spontaneous and elegant, subtle and refined, with fine, supple tannins. It expresses all the complexity of Burgundy through its roundness and grace, showcasing the artistry of Pinot Noir on a site destined for greatness.

Terroir, ORIGIN,
and identity

Nestled in the village of Flagey-Echezeaux at an elevation of 260 meters, our Echezeaux Grand Cru plot spans 1ha 62a 10ca within the lieu-dit “Echezeaux du Dessus”, classified as a “Tête de Cuvée” by the Rodier classification of 1920. Originating from a medieval remembrement linked to the Cistercian monks of Cîteaux, this Grand Cru encompasses a total surface area of 36ha 25a 83ca.

Echezeaux is the second largest Grand Cru climat in the Côte de Nuits by vineyard surface, surpassed only by Clos de Vougeot, and is the most diverse appellation in terms of its federation of 11 distinct lieux-dits.

This Grand Cru ranges in altitude from 230 to 300 meters depending on the Lieux-Dits, with slopes reaching gradients of up to 13%.

While the underlying geology predominantly reflects an alluvial fan formation, extensive across much of the vineyard, each lieu-dit exhibits unique physiographical characteristics—varying in elevation, aspect, and slope orientation.

The soils are notably deep, extending between 50 and 80 centimeters, and display remarkable heterogeneity: a complex matrix of cailloutis (gravelly scree), iron-rich red silts, yellowish marls, and calcareous clay layers. This diversity in soil composition presents a richly varied palette of colors and textures.
